Hi, I'm Louis! In my previous career in TV Production, I needed a van-load of equipment for every project; now I've fallen in love with coding, and I'm excited to be able to build things with just my brain, a few colleagues, and a laptop.
The driving forces in my career have always been a love of working in collaborative teams, the thrill of finding solutions to unfamiliar briefs, and a thirst for personal development, new skills and knowledge. Now I'm seeking a role where I can continue to grow my skills, build lasting working relationships, and make a difference as a junior member of the team.
My background is in TV production, from which I bring a dedicated work ethic and a host of transferable skills. I have managed fast-paced projects, been adaptable to varied briefs (including building an exploding suitcase), and honed my eye for design. I use the mix of disciplines in my career to inform my work when tackling new challenges, and I thrive in teams that combine unique experiences, skill sets and backgrounds to achieve a common goal.
After starting my coding journey to make use of free time during the Covid lockdowns and discovering that I couldn’t get enough, I recently took the next step in consolidating my skills through the Software Engineering Immersive course with General Assembly.

Oct 2022 – Jan 2023 · London (remote)
Working remotely over Zoom and Slack, during this full-time 3-month course I built and deployed full-stack applications using React, MongoDB, Express and Node.js, plus Python/Django and PostgreSQL, and developed my skills in JavaScript, HTML and CSS. I delivered solo, pair and group projects on-brief and to deadlines, following agile development practices and taking part in daily stand-ups.
Mar 2018 – Oct 2022 · London & South East
I worked on fast-paced short form content and commercials, for TV and digital, for clients including BBC Studios and M&C Saatchi. I managed projects to tight deadlines with rapid turnarounds, worked up technical and visual designs, and communicated clearly on technical specifics.
Jan 2014 – Sept 2017 · London & Los Angeles
I worked to develop digital series for US-based companies including The Jim Henson Company, New Form Digital and Fullscreen Ltd., and pitched to networks including Disney and Netflix, in a small team of writer-producers. Our series “Oscar’s Hotel” broke single-day sales records for Vimeo On Demand.

Social media forum app with CRUD functionality using our own REST API, and my first time working on a full-stack application. My responsilbities included writing code for: nested comment threads; editing, liking and disliking posts; toggling between original and edited versions of posts; persistent account notifications on the back-end.

Recipe app built with React and the Material UI component library, which consumes a public REST API (TheMealDB). I manipulated API response data to fit our use-case using array and object methods, and built search functionality with regex. I implemented responsive design, with different UI for desktop, tablet and mobile.

I built my own version of a classic arcade game with HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I used DOM manipulation to move/rotate Tetris blocks, recursion to clear completed rows, and code to test for obstructions when rotating, conditionally performing x and/or y axis translations.
